Located at the Maastricht-Aachen Airport, Eurocontrol's Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (MUAC) manages the the upper airspace (as from 7.5 km) of the Benelux countries and North West Germany which is still impacted by the volcanic ash cloud. Currently the centre manages the airspace on a real time basis and whenever meteorological conditions allow it, non contaminated airspace is made available to airline operators.
MUAC (over 600 employees) is a leading provider of air navigation services in Europe, not only because of the impressive number of flights they control safely day in, day out, but also their 260,000 km2 multinational airspace is a unique example of successful European cooperation.
