From October 3rd this year the construction of the mega project Brains Unlimited starts at the Maastricht Health Campus. During this official start all stakeholders lay down the first bricks. First to realize is a scannerlab for high technological scientific research on human behavior and mental illness. Most prestigious in this project is the fMRI-scanner of which there are only two others in the world.
The Brains Unlimited project will eventually hold three fMRI-scanners with ultra high magnetic fields. Aslo to be realized are accommodations for spin-off companies (the Neuropartner Incubator) and new accommodations for the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience. The scanners are expected to be in use between 2012 and 2013.
Brains Unlimited, part of the Maastricht Health Campus, is a new platform for neuro imaging for scientists and companies to research human behavior and diseases like Alzheimers, Parkinson, epilepsy, schizophrenia and MS in specific. Next to research the Brains Unlimited project is also developing part time and full time master degrees in neurophysics and neuro imaging.
