Consortium accelerates growth of Chemelot Campus
The Province of Limburg, DSM Nederland B.V. and Maastricht University/Maastricht UMC+ will join forces in the further development of the Chemelot Campus in Sittard-Geleen. The three parties will jointly work out a plan that should lead to reinforced growth of this campus and doubling of the number of knowledge workers. To realize this, the three parties today gave the impetus to the foundation of a consortium by signing a letter of intent in the presence of Dutch Economic Affairs Minister Maria van der Hoeven and Sittard-Geleen mayor Sjraar Cox.

LinkedIn introduces ‘Maastricht Area’ next to ‘Eindhoven Area’

Since today, on LinkedIn, inhabitants from the Maastricht Region are no longer automatically regionally registered in their profiles under ‘Eindhoven Area’. Now, their profiles display ‘Maastricht Area.’ Achieving this took over half a year of lobbying from the Maastricht Region Branding Foundation.

In July 2009, the Maastricht Region Branding Foundation brought LinkedIn’s area-arrangement of the network environment to the attention. In LinkedIn, communication manager Nicoline Wisse Smit, started a lobbying group which carried the name ‘We are Maastricht Region’ (The English name for the South-Limburg area). Within a short period of time, hundreds of people joined the group, increasing its numbers to roughly 1250 members today.

Maastricht University ranks in the top three best universities

Students have a higher appreciation of their educational programme if it consists of small-scale and intensive courses. According to the Keuzegids Universiteiten 2010, an evaluation guide to Dutch universities published on 17 December, smaller educational institutions tend to score higher than larger, traditional universities.

Like last year, Maastricht University has been ranked in the top three best universities, following Wageningen University and the Open University. The small-scale and intensive Problem-Based Learning system ‘for which Maastricht is renowned’* has undoubtedly contributed to this.
