'Tomorrow’s Neighborhood has become an official partner of the sustainable Energy Europe campaign, which is an initiative of the European Commission. The Commission wants to provide progressive European projects, in the area of sustainable energy, with an international platform. The project fits in with the ambitions of Hogeschool Zuyd and ‘Tomorrow’s Neighborhood’ is required to become a real-life laboratory for international research in the area of sustainable energy and sustainable construction.
Although there is no financial contribution connected with recognition as a partner, it does open doors for other forms of subsidy from Brussels and this gives the project new prospects. Currently, the first phase is being completed at the cross-border science and business park, Avantis, in Heerlen. ‘Tomorrow’s Neighborhood’ is one of eight Dutch projects that are recognized as partners. In the meantime, Hogeschool Zuyd is building a Euroregional platform for ‘Tomorrow’s Neighborhood’. Preparations have started for an international conference on sustainable construction. This SB10 Euroregional Sustainable Construction Conference will be held from October 11 through 13, 2010, in Maastricht, Liège and Aachen.
Hogeschool Zuyd is organizing a center for sustainable construction with the Fachhochschule in Aachen and the Center for Sustainable Construction in Zolder (Belgian Limburg) and the College in Liège. Recognition by the European Commission makes the Euroregional cooperative aspect more interesting, according to Hogeschool Zuyd.
